LED product datasheets and packaging use standardized abbreviations. Understanding what these terms mean helps buyers compare products accurately and choose the right bulb for their application.
CRI — Color Rendering Index
CRI (also written as Ra) measures how accurately a light source reveals the true colors of objects compared to natural sunlight. The scale runs from 0 to 100, where 100 is perfect color rendering.
- Ra < 70: Poor. Skin tones, fabrics, and food look unnatural. Not recommended for living spaces.
- Ra 70–79: Acceptable for utility areas such as car parks and storage rooms.
- Ra ≥ 80: Good. Recommended minimum for homes, offices, and retail.
- Ra ≥ 90: Excellent. Preferred for premium retail, hospitality, and any environment where color accuracy matters.
MOBASCH® products carry a CRI rating of Ra >80, suitable for general residential and commercial use in UAE and GCC.
CCT — Correlated Color Temperature
CCT is measured in Kelvin (K) and describes whether a light appears warm (yellow-orange) or cool (blue-white).
- 2700K–3000K (Warm White): Cozy, relaxing. Best for bedrooms, living rooms, restaurants.
- 4000K (Natural White): Neutral, balanced. Good for bathrooms and retail.
- 5000K–6500K (Cool Daylight): Bright, alert. Best for offices, kitchens, commercial halls, and industrial spaces.
Voltage — Input Voltage Range
The UAE and GCC operate on 220–240V AC at 50Hz. Bulbs should be rated for this range. Many modern LED bulbs carry a wide-range rating of 175–265V, which offers tolerance for voltage fluctuations common in older buildings or industrial areas.
Always confirm the input voltage rating before purchasing. Never use bulbs rated for 110V–120V (common in the US) on UAE mains power.
Power Factor (PF)
Power factor indicates how efficiently a bulb uses the electrical current drawn from the grid. A PF of 1.0 is ideal. Commercial buyers and facilities managers prefer bulbs with PF >0.9 to minimize reactive power on their electrical systems. Consumer-grade LED bulbs commonly have PF of 0.5.
LED Lifespan and L70
Rated lifespan (e.g., 25,000 hours) is typically measured to L70 — the point where the bulb still produces 70% of its initial brightness. This is the industry standard for LED longevity measurement, not the point of total failure. Real-world lifespan can be shorter in high-ambient-temperature environments if the bulb lacks good thermal management.
Warranty
LED warranties cover manufacturing defects, not physical damage or misuse. A two-year warranty on LED bulbs, such as the warranty offered by MOBASCH®, indicates a higher level of manufacturer confidence in the product. Always request written warranty terms and check if they include free replacement.
Summary Table
| Term | What It Measures | What to Look For |
|---|---|---|
| CRI / Ra | Color accuracy | Ra ≥ 80 minimum; Ra ≥ 90 for premium use |
| CCT | Warm vs cool light appearance | 3000K (warm), 4000K (neutral), 6500K (cool) |
| Input Voltage | Mains compatibility | 175–265V or 220–240V for UAE use |
| PF | Electrical efficiency | >0.5 consumer; >0.9 commercial |
| Lifespan (hrs) | Rated operating life to L70 | 25,000+ hours recommended |
| Warranty | Manufacturer confidence period | Minimum 1 year; look for 2 years with replacement |
